CSL Asia was established in 1995 to capitalise on growth opportunities in Australasia. A subsidiary of Canada Steamship Lines, CSL Asia exports unique Canadian skill and expertise in self-unloading technology. In fact, in order to improve cargo-handling efficiencies in the Great Lakes, CSL invented the belt self-unloading vessel in 1925.

Since then, CSL’s environmentally friendly, self-unloading vessels have provided customers with an alternative bulk transportation solution that reduces the need to invest in land-based infrastructure and stevedoring.
Although CSL was traditionally a Great Lakes company, it made a conscious decision to take its unique technology and expertise to the international arena in 1992. Since then it has undergone considerable expansion and now operates over 40 ships worldwide.
