Event overview:

1) Navigating Personal International Tax Issues for Canadian Expats  Trowbridge partner and tax expert Wayne Bewick will be in Singapore to help Canadian expatriates navigate the often complex world of international tax. In this interactive session, Wayne covers a wide range of topics from a Singapore and Canadian perspective. 

Attendees will leave this session with valuable tips and advice on personal tax issues including:

  • Canadian residency for tax purposes
  • Canadian and Singaporean filing requirements
  • Tax planning for Canadian expatriates, either departing Canada or arriving in Singapore
  • Retirement planning
  • Ownership, sale and rental of property in Canada and Singapore

  • Taxes at death in Canada

3) Outlook for the Canadian Dollar and External Factors Impacting the Global Economy 

Nicolas Wong, Senior FX Advisor, Investment Solutions and Products, RBC Wealth Management will discuss the general currency outlook of the Canadian dollar; the impact that outside factors such as oil have on the dollar; and the general market sentiment with respect to the US economic policy, US politics, the US economy and its impact on the global economy.

Deputy to the Head, Nicolas is responsible for recommending tactical FX trade ideas; offering FX-risk managing solutions; forecasting market trends; and providing FX related solutions to help high net worth clients oversee, together with their Relationship Managers, their portfolio. Our ultimate aim is to provide our clients a holistic long-term approach by understanding their needs, not only to protect and safe keep their wealth for future generations, but also offer well-balanced risk-managed solutions to help grow their investment portfolio

Vivian Kiang, Head of Wealth Planning, Asia, RBC Wealth Management Vivian Kiang is the Head of RBC Wealth Planning Asia. Prior to rejoining RBC, Vivian worked as a Vice President and Wealth Planner with Citi Private Bank covering the Philippines and Hong Kong markets. Before relocating to Hong Kong, Vivian has also spent 3 years working for the Royal Bank of Canada in Toronto, Canada. 

Vivian has nearly 20 years of experience in the financial industry and with majority of her time in the wealth management field. She specializes in advising and structuring various types of wealth and succession planning arrangements for private banking clients. She is particularly familiar with using structuring tools such as trusts, insurance policies and private investment companies for setting up asset holding structures for High Net Worth individuals. Vivian is very experienced in assisting Asian families that have nexus with Canada and USA. 

Vivian obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from The University of Hong Kong, a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (B.Com) from The University of Toronto, Canada and is a member of the Certified General Accountant (CGA) of Canada and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate and Practitioners (STEP) of the United Kingdom. 

Wayne Bewick, Partner, Trowbridge Professional Corporation Wayne’s focus is giving people who have relocated peace of mind when it comes to their tax matters. Wayne thrives when problem solving and helping make complex tax matters less daunting. Having split his working time in both the UK and Canada for the last 13 years Wayne has in-depth experience with the issues Canadians living in the UK face and vice versa. Wayne is a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Financial Planner and a US Certified Public Accountant. Before joining Trowbridge, he spent numerous years at Deloitte specializing in expatriate and international tax services. Wayne graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University in Montreal and is fluent in French.
