CanCham G20 Event: Food Security

Updated: Mar 19, 2023

CanCham Singapore was pleased to partner with AustCham Singapore, on our latest CanCham G20 Event: Food Security, with the support of Canada in Singapore, Embassy of Argentina in Singapore, British Chamber of Commerce Singapore - BritCham SG, UK in Singapore, Latin American Chamber of Commerce, South African Chamber of Commerce Singapore and the High Commission of South Africa in Singapore.

Special thanks to our fantastic panelists: Ms. Angela Robinson, Australia’s Chargé d’affaires to Singapore; H.E. Jean-Dominique Ieraci, High Commissioner of Canada to Singapore; Mr. Kenneth Especkerman-True, SE Asia Regional Director for Economics and Trade Policy at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office; H.E. Charlotte Lobe, High Commissioner of the Republic South Africa to Singapore; H.E. Mauricio Nine, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to Singapore; and Moderator and event sponsor Mr. Chris Argent, Head of Business Sustainability, Asia Pacific, Syngenta.

The panelists shared an important dialogue surrounding the food security challenges that are faced globally:

  • Developed countries can assist to ensure people around the world have access to food security

  • Managing the need to increase food production, while decreasing carbon emissions = sustainable practices

  • Food is a basic human right and lack of basic nutrition can destabilize food security

  • Geopolitical risk has sparked innovation and action to create a better use of land

  • The need to change human behaviour through education

We can do this but we need to start somewhere!

Here is some food for thought - did you know that canola oil was invented in Canada?

Please stay tuned for our third G20 Event: Energy Transition on April 20th!
