CanCham, in partnership with CANsg, recently hosted an inspiring Women in Tech event, capping off a month of International Women's Day celebrations. We were thrilled to welcome special guest Senator Victor Oh, who joined us all the way from Mississauga, ON and made everyone feel welcome to visit Canada.
Moderated by Caroline Berube, President of CanCham, the event featured a stellar lineup of expert panelists including Marie-Claude Ferland, Associate Partner and AI Strategy Lead at EY, Nagesh Devata, SVP GTM, APAC at Payoneer, and Sarah Wazirzada, Diversity Principal, Asia-Pacific at Google. The panelists shared invaluable insights into the tech industry, with a particular focus on the #EmbraceEquity theme of this year's IWD.
One key takeaway from the discussion was the gender disparity in technical roles within the industry, and the importance of offering a flexible and hybrid work environment and clear career roadmaps to retain women in tech. The experts emphasized that equity needs to be intentional, rather than organic, and that an emphasis shouldn't always be placed on bias.
