Responsible Business Conduct Abroad – Keeping Canadian Businesses at the Forefront


CanCham in partnership with Global Affairs Canada, hosted a very insightful roundtable discussion on Responsible Business Conduct Abroad- Keeping Canadian businesses at the forefront. We were delighted to have guest speakers: Robert Coleman, Director, Trade Planning, Coordination and Responsible Business Conduct Division, Global Affairs Canada, presenting on Canada’s commitment to CSR, setting a new global benchmark with the recently announced independent Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE), and multi-stakeholder Advisory Body on Responsible Business Conduct; and Kevin Thomas, Director of Stakeholder Engagement, Shareholder Association for Research and Education (SHARE), speaking about the global push on non-financial disclosure information and materiality risk, and the ability of investors to leverage corporate behaviour, join us all the way from Canada!


This was followed by four very diverse perspectives on responsible business conduct through the lens of each respective panelist: Peter Nesbitt, Managing Director, Global Trade & Banking, Asia & General Manager, Singapore Branch, BMO Capital Markets, Esther An, Chief Sustainability Officer, City Developments Limited, Laura Hwang, Singapore Representative of the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) and Thomas Thomas, Chief Executive Officer, ASEAN CSR Network (ACN). CanCham is extremely grateful to our CSR Lead and moderator of this event, Evelyn Wong, for helping put together such an engaging conversation, on an issue that we hope to continue the discussion on!
